Bill’s Approach To Career Coaching

 ·           My philosophy.  It is captured in a quote by Walter Annenberg .  I like because it applies to life, especially career transitions and my role as a coach.

"I want to remind you that success in life is based on hard slogging. There will be periods when discouragement is great and upsetting, and the antidote for this is calmness and fortitude and a modest yet firm belief in your competence. Be sure that your priorities are in order so that you can proceed in a logical manner, and be ever mindful that nothing will take the place of persistence."   Walter Annenberg

The under linings capture what I believe to be important qualities for a career coach.

8     A firm belief in your competence.

8        Providing calm and encouraging fortitude.

8        Making sure your priorities will get you to your goals.

8        Making sure your process is logical.

8        Constantly reminding you that persistence will pay off.

·          A commitment to total confidentiality

 ·           I am your personal trainer and promoter!

8        You have an event to win.  It’s called getting a great job, in as short a time as possible.   And of course with the BIGGEST $$$ possible ( ; - )

8        To win you have to be in shape:

                         +          Physically

                        +          Mentally

                        +          Spiritually (many would say)

+          And as a Family Unit

You must also have the right strategy and tactics.

·           My Process Follows The Five O’Clock ClubŪ Methodologies

 1.                   First, listen.  Your needs usually fall into the following areas:

+          Deciding what you want to be when you grow up.  We use a terrific tool called The 7 Stories Exercise.

                        +          Writing a killer resume

+          Sharpening interviewing skills and appearance

+          Sharpening phone interviewing skills

+          Sharpening networking skills

+          Properly positioning yourself for your targeted job(s)

+          Developing and fine tuning your target markets

+          Negotiating the best financial and employment deal possible

+          Getting the most out of every interview

+          Effective targeted mailings

+          Need a realistic sounding board and coach

 2.                   We go through an evaluation of your campaign i.e. the strategy and tactics.

+          Do you have a marketing plan?

+          Do you have enough targets?

+          How much time are you devoting to the job search?

+          Are you getting face to face with those that count?

3.       Assess and refine your resume.  Can do anything from cosmetic surgery to a transplant.       4.       Assess your fitness…..informally, with your permission.
        +          Physically

8        Are you in shape?  This is a proven stress fighter.

        +          Mentally

8        What are you doing to stimulate the brain cells besides the search?

8        What do you do to stay pumped?

8        What are you doing to have fun?

 +          Spiritually

8        Getting reacquainted with your faith or ….

8        Just long walks with a friend.

+          Family Unit

8        A critical support group.  Secret here is to communicate, communicate, and communicate some more!

5.     My hourly rate is $150.   The cost-benefit is, if we are able to reduce your time to find a job by just two weeks then my services will represent less than a few days pay.

 6.    All clients receive the following survival kit:

·            How to develop your “2 minute” pitch.  I give you specific guidelines on three different pitches, none of them literally “2 minutes” long.  Eyes glaze after 60 seconds!

First pitch.  The answer to, what do you do?

Second pitch.  The answer to, what are you looking for?

Third pitch.  The answer to, tell me about yourself.

·           The CAR model.  The best way to talk about your accomplishments.

·           A list of killer web sites that are critical to developing your target companies, staying on top of your industry, information that allows you to network and market yourself better than your competition.

·            A bibliography of the must have books for a successful campaign.
7.       Bill the first and the fifteenth of every month.

          8.       Once a client, your children, spouse or partner receive a 20% discount.

          9.        We set up a budget.  My goal is to spend as little of your money as possible.

10.  And after we are through I am always available as a sounding board on an occasional quick question or issue for no charge.

11.  If you want to use me on a more regular basis I bill on actual time, no minimum increments.

12.  24/7 availability.

             13.  Always return calls or emails the same day.

Additional Services

·           Working with clients to: Maximize success in the new job.

 ·            Studies have shown that most executive derailments occur as a result of what was or wasn’t done during the first six months in the new job.

 ·           The cause of the derailments is most frequently a result of interpersonal issues versus not meeting the numbers.  And the interpersonal issues are a result of how well you interact with peers, subordinates, the boss, internal and external clients.

 ·           The best insurance for success is to have a specific 30-60-90 day plan that ensures you maximize your opportunities to establish a success path and minimizes the chances for failure.

 ·           How?  Work with an experienced job coach.

 ·           Not only can I help you design a good plan but you can use me as a sounding board during those critical first few months when an objective third party opinion is invaluable.

·           Cost?  A 20% discount, just $120 an hour.
